Fun in June

This Jun break turned out very well. I had thought that we could only do this in Dec. I managed to take a few days break and brought the family to Genting, had fun at the zoo and even became flag day volunteers for a morning. All in all really rejuvenating and fulfilling.

At Genting, the kids thoroughly enjoyed the theme park. It was just too bad that Nigel was a bit short (min ht 122cm) for the roller coaster and other rides. Else tks to dar's good planning, we had a smooth time, and our stored value food cards allowed us 3 good restaurant meals (with sharks fin to boot!). The best part was that we returned with good memories from the casino..Dar won over RM300...

On the 1 overcast friday, we took our chances and left for the zoo. The kids had fun talking about the animals, had games (tried to copy the giraffe eating leaves), mosquito bites, and great memories. It was a combi ticket we bought, and we would be going to the night safari soon.

On the last sat before school started, Claire, Nigel, Chloe, dar and me took off to help the KDF for their flag day. We had wanted to give the kids an experience of sharing, and doing something for the underpriviledged. Instead, we managed to teach them a lesson about asking and the need to be proactive to get what you want. They faced lots of rejection. Imagine Claire/Nigel running up to approach an uncle/auntie asking in their angelic voice "Good morning xxx, would you like to donate?", and a RESOUNDING "NO". Claire was quite adjusted after a while, and would just dive for the next person. Poor Nigel would turn around and give me a blank stare. I would just explain to him that it is up to people to decide whether they wanted to donate or not. But if we did not ask, they would surely not. Fortunately, there were many kind people as well, who donated large amounts esp to Nigel, even though they already done so previously. We finished up all our stickers in the span of 1 and 1/2 hours, and left Bishan bus terminal when other school children was just starting.

Our new place..Toh Yi Blk 2

We are finally the owners of a maisonette at Toh Yi. This was not easy...we had started combing from last year. If not for the boo-boo/god's plan, we would also have not made the decision on this unit. But we have, and we finally got the keys today. Thinking back, it has not been easy and is going to be so from now on. We wiped out our savings for the downpayment, finally got the bank's ok for the loan, and is still waiting for the ok for the reno loan. But in between, we are now almost done with our will, and we have spend some good time thinking about the reno...ok dar has done all the work...but I am kinda excited about it all. I hope that it will turn up the way as we dreamt of in Sep. Am attaching the "before" look...
